Open Clay is a members only event. It is held on Saturdays from 9 am to noon except during Winter. Members have the opportunity to use our pottery studio for the low fee of $5. The fee is to help with the cost of clay, glazes and the use of our kiln. Since schedules change and Austin is not always able to make it for every Saturday, please call during the week to verify. This is just one of the many great member benefits that we offer at AAHC. If you would like to attend and are not a member, please click on the link below.

Painting the Dynamic Landscape

Landscape Painting from Photographs with Pam Newell
Learn the process for creating dynamic, light filled paintings from your own photographic references and or plein air field studies.  A good painting is more than just a rendering of a photo!
You will learn about composition, values, color, edges, brushwork and more:
*Choosing the best photographic reference, and deciding what your painting will say
*Simplifying a scene to create strong design
*Moving or removing elements within a photo
*Overcoming value (light and dark) issues inherent in photographic references
*Perspective issues
*Creating a sense of light and atmosphere
Bring your most inspiring color landscape photos, or, better yet, an IPad or laptop with photo references, and if you have them, plein air studies.  An artist’s connection to the scene is important to painting with emotion, so please bring landscape photos that excite you.  The best ones are of those places you’ve experienced.  There will be demonstrations and lots of one on one attention.
This workshop is open to all skill levels and styles.  Some drawing or painting experience is recommended.  The main emphasis is on oil or pastel painting, however all media are welcome.
Students provide all workshop materials.  Please bring a portable or tabletop easel.  Materials lists are found on my website under workshops: www. pnewellart.com.
